UTM-Antarctic research group was formed in late 2012 and received a research grant for a program entitled ‘Impact of Climate Change on Tropical Antartica Region – A Socio-Ecological Perspective’, lead by INSTeG Director, Prof. Sr. Dr. Mazlan Hashim. This group consists of researchers from the Institute for Geospatial Science & Technology (INSTeG), Sustainability Research Alliance (SRA), Environmental Biotechnology Research Group (EnviBio), Sports Technology Innovation Centre (SITC), Automotive Development Centre (ADC) and Ibnu Sina Institute (IIS). For raising the quality of research, expeditions to Antarctic was designed to collect samples of the latest research and may be used for testing the prototype in an environment of extreme cold at the South Pole. The expedition is scheduled to begin on 26 March to 19 April 2015.
This expedition will use the service by a company cruise sailings, Ocean Expeditions Limited which offers special cruise packages for conducting scientific research activities in Antarctica. This expedition includes four research projects, namely Impact of Climate Change on Antarctic-Tropic region, Fundamental Science, Fitness-Science (Physical, Physiological & Psilogical) and Ice Transportation and involves a total of six researchers from UTM.
