Johor River Basin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>GCRF Introductory Workshops with Stakeholders of Sg. Johor River Basin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the <strong>Centre of Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), UTM<\/strong> had successfully organised two <strong>Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) Introductory Workshops<\/strong> aimed to introduce the recently awarded GCRF project to the stakeholders of <strong>Sg. Johor River Basin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Both workshops were held at Hotel Impiana, Senai, Johor. The first introductory workshop was held on <strong>18<sup>th<\/sup> of June<\/strong>, attended by various federal and state government agencies, private agencies and academicians. The second workshop was held on the <strong>25<sup>th<\/sup> of June<\/strong> attended by various environment and water related NGOs, local community representatives (i.e.: <em>Penghulu, Ketua Kampung<\/em>, <em>Tok Batin Orang Asli, and Wakil Persatuan Nelayan<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>In total, approximately <strong>81 participants<\/strong> from government agencies and <strong>28 participants<\/strong> from NGOs and local community representatives attended both workshops. The workshops started at 9.00 am with an opening and introductory speech from the principal investigator, <strong>Prof. Dr. Azmi Aris<\/strong>, followed by a presentation on water issues in Sg. Johor river basin by <strong>Prof. Zulkifli Yusop<\/strong>. The participants were then divided into groups of eight to ten persons to discuss on the issues, factors, current practices, proposed solutions and barriers of water management in Sg. Johor. The participants were full of enthusiasm and actively involved themselves in the group discussions. Plenty of on-ground knowledge and experiences were shared among the participants. Both workshops ended at 4.30 pm with a closing remark by the principal investigator. Participants look forward to attend future workshops as they feel that it is a good platform for them to contribute towards developing a sustainable and integrated river basin management of Sg.
