height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Central regions are in the firing line for the worst of the deluge although heavy rain threatens more misery for the flood-ravaged north.<\/p>\n<p>Another 12 inches is forecast to hit parts of Britain in just 48 hours this weekend as emergency services are stretched to the limit.<\/p>\n<p>Thermometers are poised to plunge to -8C (18F) in Scotland and the north threatening to turn torrential downpours into heavy snow.<\/p>\n<p>A fortnight of severe weather left Cumbria and the north waist-deep in floodwater with the cleanup bill expected to top \u00a3500 million.<\/p>\n<p>Rivers burst their banks with others at bursting point as thousands of families are told it could be a year before they can return home.<\/p>\n<p>Glenridding, Cumbria, was struck by floods for a second time on Wednesday night after a river which runs through the village burst its banks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/research.utm.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2015\/12\/151211-FSUK-2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2822\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2822\" src=\"https:\/\/research.utm.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2015\/12\/151211-FSUK-2.jpg\" alt=\"151211 FSUK 2\" width=\"590\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<section class=\"text-description\">Diggers were out all night battling to stem the raging torrent while police urged residents to stay in their homes until waters recede.Weathermen say after a slightly calmer week in parts, Britain is braced for another major onslaught over the next three days.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Met Office has not named the storm, the next in the series would be Eva following Abigail, Barney, Clodagh and Desmond.<\/p>\n<p>Leon Brown, forecaster for The Weather Channel UK, said the weather is about to take another \u201cturn for the worse\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cWe are expecting a much wetter period again and an increasing risk of some more serious flooding with more prolonged rain falling on saturated ground, and already very high rivers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLatest forecasts area suggesting another series of frontal waves and areas of low pressure that will track across central Britain Saturday to Sunday and Monday.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/research.utm.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2015\/12\/151211-FSUK-3.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2823\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2823\" src=\"https:\/\/research.utm.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2015\/12\/151211-FSUK-3.jpg\" alt=\"151211 FSUK 3\" width=\"590\" height=\"438\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cExactly how far north they extend remains uncertain, but many forecasts are suggesting they will run across\u00a0 Wales, central and northern England, but could reach southern Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe heaviest rainfall will probably hit parts of Wales with 200-300mm [12 inches] possible in 48hrs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is also a risk that along the northern edge of the rain areas we may see some heavy snow\u00a0 across northern England and the Pennines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the south will miss the worst of the wind and rain with temperatures staying mild for the time of year.<\/p>\n<p>However the mercury will plummet further north with bitter winds and heavy snow threatening chaos in the region from tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/research.utm.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2015\/12\/151211-FSUK-4.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2824\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2824\" src=\"https:\/\/research.utm.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2015\/12\/151211-FSUK-4.jpg\" alt=\"151211 FSUK 4\" width=\"590\" height=\"438\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cScotland will possibly miss the heaviest precipitation but will be colder with snow showers from Thursday through the weekend with ice one of the main problems and some low overnight temperatures and temperatures perhaps dipping to minus 8C on Sunday morning,\u201d\u00a0 Mr Brown said.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cEveryone living in central Britain should be on alert this weekend to Monday and keep looking at updated forecasts since areas that have so far not had flooding are at risk, plus the snow risk further north.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTemperatures will stay\u00a0 mild across southern Britain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Met Office has issued severe weather warning for 70mph gales and heavy rain today in Scotland and the north.<\/p>\n<section class=\"text-description\">Spokesman Grahame Madge said parts go the country already hit by floods face further heavy downpours in the coming days.He said: \u201cIt is going to rain unsettled going into the weekend with heavy showers and snow forecast in parts of the north.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRainfall will return somewhat erratically with the heaviest showers likely in Wales and the western side of Britain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is scope for more heavy rain over areas which have been affected over the past few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Met Office forecaster Helen Chivers added: \u201cMuch of the UK will be cooler, bright and breezy with sunny spells and scattered showers, these will be heavy with thunder and hail and wintry over the higher ground in Scotland and the far north of England.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRain across the south is expected to spread north again over the weekend as a low pressure system passes to the west\/northwest of Britain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is considerable uncertainty around the timing and details of just how wet and windy it will be, as the weather models are not in agreement on how this weather system will develop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Britain is still reeling from Storm Desmond which unleashed havoc at the weekend toppling trees and leaving thousands of homes without power.<\/p>\n<p>Transport systems were thrown into chaos after \u201cunprecedented\u201d rainfall with the fourth named storm of the season expected to have claimed several lives.<\/p>\n<p>The Environment Agency (EA) has issued 22 flood alerts and sic more serious flood warnings across northern, central and western regions.<\/p>\n<p>The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has six alerts and 16 flood warnings in place across the region.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Wilding, EA flood risk manager, said: \u201cOur thoughts are with everyone that has been flooded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnvironment Agency teams are checking and maintaining flood defences, clearing blockages in rivers, monitoring water levels and working with local flood wardens in the areas worst affected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge people not drive through flood water\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With stormy weather set to rage through he festive season bookies have started to backtrack on odds for a White Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>Ladbrokes spokeswoman Jessica Bridge said: \u201cBad news for those dreaming of a White Christmas as the odds are increasing all over the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSadly the odds of a White Christmas are drifting like a barge and it looks like December 25th may be visited by the sunshine instead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, said snowfall this weekend is possible as far south as central England.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cRain is likely to turn to snow across higher ground with some significant accumulations becoming likely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSleet and snow showers will develop in northern and western areas and by the weekend the risk increases to parts of Northern England.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven some parts as
