KUCHING: Seven flood relief centres are still operating in the district of Serian with a slight decrease in the number of victims. Sarawak Civil Defence Department public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said as of 8 am, 1,523 victims from 477 families are still staying at the seven centres compared to 1,538 comprising 483 families last night. With the fine weather forecasted for today, more victims are expected to return to their respective homes, she said. The floods that hit Sarawak since Saturday temporarily displaced 7,965 people from 2,051 families who were forced to seek shelter at 25 evacuation centres in Kuching; 13 in Serian; 14 in Bau; five in Samarahan; and one each in Padawan and Simunjan. — Bernama
