GELANG PATAH, Feb 19 – Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tiram Duku was filled with creativity and excitement on February 19, 2025, as 38 Year 4 students took part in an engaging storytelling programme titled Under the Sea Tales of SK Tiram Duku, organized by the Language Academy at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH). Held on the school’s premises, this vibrant programme, part of the Language Academy’s Foster Schools Project, was designed to introduce students to the art of storytelling while guiding them through the process of brainstorming, writing, and creating their own storybooks. The programme aimed to nurture a love for storytelling and enhance the students’ language and creative thinking skills.

The event commenced with an energizing ice-breaker activity called “Catch of the Day: Let’s Break the Ice!” This first session, led by Senior Lecturer Dr. Nur’ain Balqis Haladin from the Language Academy, encouraged students to engage in fun, interactive games designed to help them get to know each other and spark their imaginations. The light-hearted atmosphere allowed the students to feel comfortable and build rapport with their peers, making them more open and confident in their creative expression.

The next part of the program, Splash of Stories, saw students gather for an engaging reading session, where facilitators introduced them to the sea-themed story “Hani and the Battle for Coral Burger.” This captivating tale was chosen for its engaging storyline and educational value, highlighting the importance of environmental preservation and marine life conservation. As the students listened attentively, they were inspired by the narrative’s imaginative world, where characters embark on underwater adventures filled with conflict, excitement, and valuable lessons.

After this inspiring session, the students engaged in the last segment of the program, a Writing Session with Facilitators: Waves of Imagination. With the support of dedicated facilitators from the Language Academy, the young storytellers began brainstorming and drafting their own creative works. The facilitators offered personalized assistance, helping students develop their ideas, structure their stories, and refine their writing. Encouraging the use of oceanic themes, the students explored endless possibilities of underwater adventures, mythical creatures, and environmental topics, weaving captivating narratives that reflected their imaginations.
The Under the Sea Tales of SK Tiram Duku program was a resounding success, leaving the Year 4 students not only more excited but also empowered to continue exploring their writing abilities. The experience provided them with the tools and encouragement needed to develop their storytelling skills and gave them a sense of ownership over their creative projects. As they embarked on their writing journeys, the students were sure to carry with them the lessons learned during this special day and remember it as the moment when their imaginations first set sail on an exciting adventure.
