Unlocking AI: UTM public lecture explores from individual potential to precision innovation

The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI) hosted a public lecture on “Unlocking AI: From Individual Potential to Precision Innovation” featuring Prof. Dr. Jack Lau, a renowned expert in AI. The lecture explored the transformative potential of AI, precision innovation, and the implications of AI for entrepreneurship, while also highlighting the need for energy-efficient AI computing systems. The event brought together UTM management, faculty members, students, and guests for a day of strategic engagement and knowledge sharing on the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Merdeka for machines? The soul of Malaysian language

Malaysians are expressing concern that the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in language production is eroding the soul and cultural context of the Malaysian language. While AI can generate perfect Malay-English sentences, it lacks the nuance and cultural understanding that human communication provides. The use of AI in language production risks homogenizing the Malaysian language and culture, and neglecting the rich regional accents and individuality that make it unique.

Learning Beyond the Lecture: Reflections on effective knowledge transfer across demographics

Undergraduate students from SSCY 2733 GENETICS conducted the Service Learning Malaysia programme, BioVenture: Journey into Nature, which effectively transferred knowledge through hands-on practice, interactive puzzles, and quizzes, engaging a diverse audience of 75 participants. The programme demonstrated that effective knowledge transfer should be a two-way process, allowing different forms of knowledge to be shared and creating opportunities for participants to relate information to their own lives. The programme’s success showed that knowledge transfer can be achieved through simple, well-structured methods, leading to greater understanding, memorable experiences, and motivation to apply learned concepts.
