Geoscience and Digital Earth Centre (INSTeG) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is a leading research institute specializing in geospatial sciences. Focused on sustainable development and environmental solutions, INSTeG excels in spatial modeling, analytics, and GeoSensing Big Data. Research areas include Hyperspectral Remote Sensing, Geodesy, and Marine Remote Sensing. Improved indicators for the integrated assessment of coastal sustainable development based on Earth Observation Data.

Target 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 14) depicts a better future regarding the capacity of coastal environments to cope with several developmental challenges. However, gaps in the data and indicators restrict the effective implementation of this global plan. In this context, under the umbrella of the Digital Belt and Road (DBAR) Program, the DBAR_COAST working group (WG) aims to solve the problems of coastal sustainable development along the Maritime Silk Road (MSR).

Headwater Early Warning System project at Gunung Belumut Eco Forest Park, Kluang

INSTeG, serving as the head for this project and need to supply early warning system for flash floods and related works, was lead by the Deputy Director of INSTeG, Dr. Rizaludin Mahmud. The project has been completed and was inaugurated by the Director of Forestry Malaysia.

Fieldword at Kota Kinabalu

An expedition for collecting coral and seagrass data via aerial means using a drone equipped with a MicaSense 5-band multispectral camera.

INSTeG received an invitation from Kulim M Berhad to explain the use of drone and multispectral applications in identifying the quality of the trees and pineapples on their plantation.

Collaboration with Kulim Plantation

Using drones and multispectral cameras to identify and detect diseased oil palm seedlings based on soil moisture and leaf color at Kulim Berhad’s nursery plantation in Kota Tinggi.
