THE PROBLEM
Water and energy are central elements in process industry; consequently, all efforts made to reduce them contribute to environmental advances. The environmental impact induced by the process industry is linked both to the high volumes involved and to the diversity of toxic products generated along the process chain. As energy costs continue to rise and water becomes scarce resources, industrial plants need effective ways to reduce the amount of energy and water they consume. It is obvious that any attempt to provide a more efficient and effective water and energy management system that can reduce existing cost would lead to an increase in the national revenue as a whole. Therefore, there is a need to define an optimized water and energy network thus reducing the wastewater treatment cost, fresh water cost and also energy cost.
THE SOLUTIONÂ
UTM-CIAM helped PROSPECT to model and solve the optimization problem involving complex water and heat integration to minimize the discharge of waste water and consumption of fresh water and energy in single contaminants based operation
