CEES Facilities
Generation Lab
The Generation Lab focuses on renewable energy research, including solar PV and wind turbines, to support sustainable energy development while minimizing pollution. It explores Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and innovative renewable technologies to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.
Power System Measurement and Monitoring Lab
This lab focuses on power quality monitoring, analysis, and mitigation techniques to minimize the impact on loads and power system equipment. Real-time monitoring enables predictive maintenance, preventing failures and ensuring system reliability.
Demand Side Management LabÂ
Rising electricity costs and climate change concerns have driven efforts to reduce energy consumption. Demand Side Management (DSM) focuses on optimizing consumer load profiles through peak load reduction, load adjustment, and energy-saving strategies. However, the effectiveness of DSM varies based on user consumption patterns. The DSM Lab at UTM conducts research, simulations, and testing to develop efficient DSM solutions for different energy users.
Illumination Lab
To support energy efficiency initiatives, Malaysia and other developing countries implement labeling programs for electrical appliances, with a focus on lighting. The Illumination Lab at UTM, under CEES, was established to test and evaluate lighting technologies like CFL and FL. It serves as an accredited lab supporting energy efficiency labeling programs for residential and commercial sectors.
