Message from the Director

Message from the Director of CEES, UTM
Electrical energy is the backbone of modern society, shaping economic progress and enhancing our quality of life. As Malaysia accelerates its transition toward a low-carbon economy under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), the need for innovative and sustainable energy solutions has never been more urgent. Our nation’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, and increasing the share of renewable energy aligns with global sustainability efforts, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—specifically SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
In line with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)’s vision to be a global leader in innovative technology and its mission to foster excellence in research, education, and sustainable solutions, the Centre of Electrical Energy Systems (CEES) plays a pivotal role in driving impactful research and innovation in energy systems. Through our expertise in smart electrical energy management, energy efficiency, and renewable energy integration, we aim to support Malaysia’s journey toward a greener and more resilient energy ecosystem. By strengthening industry-academia collaborations and knowledge transfer, CEES is committed to developing cutting-edge solutions that contribute to the advancement of science, technology, and sustainability at both national and global levels.
As I embark on my tenure as Director from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2027, my vision for CEES is clear: to strengthen our foundation, expand our impact, and elevate our contributions to the energy sector.
For my first year, I have outlined Seven (7) Strategic Way-forwards (Strategic 1 to Strategic 7) that will drive our growth and excellence.
These initiatives are not just targets; they are our collective aspirations. With the dedication of our researchers, staff, and collaborators, I am confident that CEES will achieve new milestones in energy research and innovation. Let us work together to empower the future of sustainable energy.
Warm regards,
Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Norzanah Rosmin
