Postgraduate studentship(s) in Neuroscience, either at MSc or PhD level, is IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE with the ‘Brain Reward and Anti-Reward’ team at Department of Neurosciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to work on the following project: ‘Neuroeconomics of Anti-Tobacco Pictorial Warnings’.
Project brief: It seeks to elaborate on how and why the central neurocircuitry of nicotine addiction responds differently to various anti-tobacco pictorial health warnings, involving related neural networks analysis and neuroimaging data. It ultimately attempts to incorporate neuroeconomics model of addiction to construct ideal and effective health prevention campaigns. This project will be conducted in the fMRI suite located at the Department of Radiology, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Our expectations

  • Applicants possessed a degree with knowledge in economics, mathematics, psychology, biology, computer science, management science, physics, or engineering are suitable for this project provided that they are willing to learn and apply high level mathematical models and statistical methods.
  • Applicants will be required to learn and gain knowledge in economic models of decision making based on game theory and other models used in behavioural economics using fMRI to study the neural substrates underlying human cognition and decision making.
  • Applicants will be required to master technical skills using Statistical Parametric Mapping or other fMRI analysis software including programming software such as Matlab, Python or R.

  • Graduate incentive – RM 1300 per month for Master (2 years) or RM1500 per month for PhD (3 years)

 

Career prospect

Graduates who have completed this project at Master or PhD level will be expected to continue their career at institutions that utilise science for decision making and policy development, and be able to use their acquired expertise as an architect of choice.
