The Director of the Institute of Future Energy (IFE), Prof. Dr. Arshad Ahmad, the management committee members of IFE, Prof. Dr. Aishah Abdul Jalil, Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Md Pauzi Abdullah, Ts. Dr. Sathiabama T. Thirugnana and Ts. Dr. Mohd Fadhzir Ahmad Kamaroddin, completed a series of international research visits to the Top 3 Indonesian universities, namely the University of Indonesia (UI), the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB), and the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM). The research visit was a pro-active initiative to kick start a mutual research and development (R&D) collaboration between IFE researchers and the three (3) universities which UTM has a few active Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with.

The research visit started at the University of Indonesia on Monday, 10th October 2022. The management committee of the Faculty of Engineering, led by Prof. Harinaldi, welcomed the UTM Researchers by Prof. Dr. Arshad Ahmad. During the discussion meeting, a few modes of collaboration have been identified which include joint research grants, exchange students, and joint conference organizers just to name a few. The UTM researchers also visited the laboratories and research facilities at various labs in the Faculty of Engineering, UI.

On Wednesday, 12th October 2022, the convoy visited the Centre of Research and Community Services (CRCS) at the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB). The UTM team was welcomed by the Director of CRCS, Dr. Yuli.

A lot of similarities and huge potential for collaboration between UTM and ITB on research activities including joint conferences, staff & student exchange, joint research projects, joint publications, and webinars.

Research activities and interests will cover the area of new and renewable energy, photoelectrochemical, power generation & propulsion systems, nuclear-molten salt reactor (4th Gen), liquid organic hydrogen storage, hydrogen production, proton exchange membrane synthesis, hydrogen fuel cell power, and electrical energy systems.

ITB representatives include Dr. Yuli (Head of CRSC), Prof. Wenten (Vice Reactor ITB), Prof. Fauzi (ex-Indonesia Ambassador to UNESCO), Prof. Ari, Prof. Song, Dr. Hary Devianto (Chem. Eng), Dr. Sidik, Dr. Firman and Dr. Rino Mukti as the moderator.

The team continued the mission of initiating a good research collaboration with the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Friday, 14th of October 2022.

There was vast potential for collaboration between UTM and UGM on research activities including joint conferences, staff & student exchange, joint research projects, joint publications, and webinars.

Research activities and interests will cover the area of new and renewable energy, green energy, hydrogen research, ocean thermal energy conversion, and electrical energy systems.

Representatives from UGM included Prof. Selo (Dean of Engineering), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Awaludin (Vice Dean), Ir. Sarjiya Dr. Indra Perdana, Dr. Rino, Dr. Herianto and Dr. Ahmad Tawfieq (Head of Department for Chem. Eng.) as the moderator.
