I am glad to inform you that Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) will be conducting a research mission to Antarctica, from 25th February – 15th March 2015. Six UTM researchers will participate in the mission, from a diverse range of research expertise, including geospatial science and technology, remotelyoperated vehicle (ROV) technology, sports science, and microbiology.
This mission is fully organised by UTM, assisted by staffs from Ocean Expeditions, an Antarctic research vessel operator. Ocean Expeditions is headed by Mr. Ben Wallis, an experienced skipper for the polar regions.
UTM researchers will be conducting several experiments in the areas surrounding the Antarctic peninsula, and collecting soil, sea water and ice samples. This mission is expected to significantly contribute to the high impact research activities currently undergoing at UTM, and we believe will contribute to the societal well being and development of Malaysia towards becoming a knowledgebased nation.
