KUALA LUMPUR, 0ct 3 (Bernama) — Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) of Alexandria Egypt for academic excellence and research innovation collaboration.
UTM Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang said the cooperation was effective for five years, focusing on joint research programmes, research article publication, student supervision, establishment of centre of excellence and staff and student exchange in the respective universities.
“By this joint venture, it can also enhance staff expertise and give understanding on culture and research activities, traditions and lessons in the Middle East.
“Besides, it can also create bilateral relationship in harmony between Malaysia and the Arab League,” he told reporters after the signing of the MoU here.
Zaini signed on behalf of UTM while AASTMT was represented by its President Professor, Dr Ismail Abdel Ghafar.
Zaini said the relationship between UTM and AASTMT was readily established with the placement of post-doctoral research at the Institute of Geospatial Science and Technology (INSTEG) Faculty of Engineering and Geoinformation Science, UTM.
“In fact, the research in INSTEG covers many engineering disciplines such as Satellite Oceanography, GPS, Navigation, Hydrography and Ground Penetrating Radar which could be the interest of AASTMT,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail Abdel Gafar hoped the cooperation with UTM would be a successful venture leading towards research excellence for both parties.
