KUALA LUMPUR: Two institutions that are regarded the best in their field will be collaborating in the cardiovascular engineering research and development.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and the National Heart Insitute (IJN) will be sharing their expertise and clinical experiences to spur knowledge and findings in a joint effort with the setting up of the IJN-UTM Cardiovascular Engineering Centre today.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who officiated the centre today, said it would help speed up the research into the world’s main cause of death.
The disease has contributed 30 per cent of death so far.
“This centre will be able to help heart patients recover and live normally with the collaboration of these experts.
“This collaboration will also open doors to new findings as well as the generation of more experts in the field of cardiovascular and engineering.
“It is hoped that with this centre, we will be able to produce at least 150 PhD graduates, 500 high-impact journals and 100 patent units within 10 years,” he said during the ceremony held at IJN in Jalan Tun Razak.
