The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) proudly commemorates the successful culmination of the UTM Nexus Expo 2023 (NEXPO), a groundbreaking innovation program inaugurated by YB Dato’ Mohammad Yusof Haji Apdal, Timbalan Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi Malaysia. Taking place on October 25th and 26th, 2023, at Residensi UTM KL, Malaysia, NEXPO 2023 served as a vibrant platform fostering scientific and social exchanges. It drew participation from an eclectic mix of stakeholders, including industry leaders, students from various levels, local and global researchers, and more.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Rosli Md. Illias, emphasized NEXPO’s essence as more than an exhibition but a catalyst for forging partnerships, sparking innovation, and charting a brighter future for UTM. The showcased research epitomized the institution’s robust scientific prowess, aiming to cultivate an innovation culture and elevate UTM’s global visibility.

The event hosted over 71 exhibitors displaying cutting-edge research and innovative projects. Distinguished players, including IJN, RHB Bank, HRD Corp., Fuji Electric Malaysia, and others, showcased high-tech innovations and conducted live demonstrations. Noteworthy highlights encompassed the Corporate Social Initiative (CSI) by Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), offering free health screenings, and UTM Get Hired, providing career opportunities and industry internships for students.

NEXPO’s main events, such as the International Conference on Research and Innovation in Information Systems, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Technology, and Accounting (ICRIIS-META) and the International Seminar on Aeronautics and Energy 2023 (ISAE), featured keynote addresses and interactive panel discussions advancing the national innovation ecosystem.

This gathering brought together 1,459 stakeholders from diverse fields of industries, showcasing engaging and productive collaboration. Representatives from government agencies, industry partners, students, and university staff enriched discussions with multifaceted perspectives.

UTM’s expansive coverage across niche areas facilitated networking opportunities and immersive learning. Research projects spanned diverse domains like nanotechnology, IoT, agriculture, biotechnology, disaster management, education, health, and manufacturing, enhancing UTM’s visibility and marketability. Notably, NEXPO forged collaborations with numerous entities, bolstering industry and community engagement.

Efforts to amplify visibility included captivating radio ads and interviews on prominent channels, enhancing understanding and attracting attention to UTM’s research prowess. A coordinated social media campaign also significantly emphasized to audiences the importance of engaging in partnerships with all stakeholders, emphasizing the value of innovation.

Wrapping up on a high note, UTM is thrilled to celebrate NEXPO’s success! It’s been a real game-changer for igniting innovation right here in our community. This whole thing just confirms how powerful our local innovation efforts are, making life better for everyone around us—locally and globally!
