Generous Endowment and Inspiring Dialogue by UTM Alumni

JOHOR BAHRU, 12 December 2023 – Two significant events that left a lasting impact on both students and faculty members were held on the 12th of December 2023 at Convention Hall B12, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying. The main agenda of the event was to have industrial practitioners share their expertise and noble experiences in the Quantity Surveying profession.

The first event unfolded with a heartfelt gesture from Datuk Sr. Mohd Asri Abdul Ghani, Principal of Asri QS Consult and an alumnus of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). His deep affinity for UTM has led him to give back to his alma mater. He demonstrated his unwavering commitment to education by donating RM 10,000 to the Department of Quantity Surveying. This generous endowment is specifically earmarked for B40 students, aiming to alleviate their financial burdens while providing support for the students in the pursuit of their academic goals.

 

Datuk Sr. Mohd Asri Abdul Ghani presented a symbolic mock cheque to the Dean of Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, Prof. Sr. Dr. Kherun Nita Ali.

Datuk Sr. Mohd Asri Abdul Ghani expressed his sincere desire to see all students, regardless of their economic backgrounds, thrive in their studies. This endowment is a testament to his belief in the potential of B40 students and his commitment to ensuring that financial constraints will not hinder their educational journey. The first event concluded at 1.00 pm for a lunch break.

Following the endowment ceremony, Datuk Sr. Mohd Asri Abdul Ghani was invited to share his professional experience as a Quantity Surveyor with Year 1, Year 3, and Year 4 students. The second event started at 2.00 pm. It was an informal yet enlightening session with all the students. Drawing from his extensive experience in the quantity surveying profession, he shared his personal journey from the early stages of his career to gradually ascending the ladder of this profession.

The professional talk provided invaluable insights into the practical aspects of the quantity surveying industry and offered a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs that come with the profession. The sharing session by Datuk Sr. Mohd Asri Abdul Ghani served as a source of inspiration for future quantity surveyors, motivating them to pursue excellence and persevere in facing the real challenges in the future.

As for the professional talk, it added a practical dimension to academic learning, encouraging students to aspire to greater heights in their chosen profession. The event concluded at 4.00 pm. The Department of Quantity Surveying expresses gratitude to Datuk Sr. Mohd Asri Abdul Ghani for his invaluable contributions and looks forward to continued collaboration that enhances the education of students.
