On January 16, 2024, Dr. Kang Myoung Sook, an expert in Korean and Malay languages and a lecturer at the Language Academy, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), along with Professor Emeritus Dr. Ahn Yong-ho from the Department of Malay-Indonesian Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) in Seoul, Korea, paid a courtesy visit to the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP).
The visit was made possible thanks to the management team of DBP, which included Dr Hazami bin Jahari (Director General), Dr. Rusmadi Baharudin (Head of Policy and Research Department), Mohd Fadzli bin Tajuid (Head of Language and Literature Construction Department), Roziah Yunus (Development and Literature Department), YM Tengku Fauziah Ku Mat (Publishing Department), and Assmah Osman (Policy and Research Department).
Dr. Hazami bin Jahari led a meeting that began with a welcoming remark. The discussion involved exploring potential future collaborations, including publishing a Korean-Malay dictionary and other books related to the local culture and language for children, youth, and adults. Additionally, there were discussions about various projects in partnership with DBP to promote the Malay language at national and international levels.

The dictionary is an important tool for learning a foreign language. If the Malay-Korean dictionary gets published successfully, it will be the first of its kind in Korea and Malaysia. This dictionary will significantly help those interested in studying both languages. As the project leader, Dr. Kang will work closely with DBP to make this project a reality. The visit ended with an appreciation token exchange, hoping this engagement will further strengthen the ongoing and prospective collaborations between UTM, HUFS, and DBP.
