JOHOR BAHRU, 29 Jan. – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is committed to its global prominence strategy, which aims to establish and maintain strong partnerships with distinguished institutions worldwide. In line with this, UTM’s Faculty of Computing has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wiwynn to foster academic and research collaboration between both parties in computing technology, automation, and engineering. This partnership will further strengthen and promote the development of these fields.
On January 29th, 2024, the exchange ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was held at UTM Johor Bahru. UTM was represented by Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir, the Dean of its Faculty of Computing. Mr. Nelson Wu, the Deputy General Manager of Wiwynn Technology Service Malaysia Sdn, represented Wiwynn. Bhd. The ceremony was witnessed by delegations from both UTM and Wiwynn.
During his speech, Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir mentioned that the memorandum would facilitate sharing academic knowledge and research initiatives. He also stated that this agreement would benefit the government, universities, communities, and industries, especially Wiwynn.
Mr. Nelson Wu suggested that collaborating strategically with universities and industries will lead to innovation and talent development in areas such as cloud-related product manufacturing, automation, and green technology. Both partners can conduct joint research, exchange their best practices, and offer internship and employment opportunities to UTM students and graduates. This partnership is also a way to increase the commercial returns of research universities.
The strategic cooperation between the two parties is centred around four main pillars: Government-Enterprise Research, Enterprise-University Alliance, University-Enterprise Training Program, and Market-oriented Technical Service. Both parties plan to undertake several initiatives, including developing digital talents, establishing a satellite lab, and providing curriculum support through the Industrial Advisory Panel (IAP) for computing and engineering programs.
Wiwynn, a leading Taiwan-based provider of cloud IT infrastructure for hyperscale data centres, has recently opened its Phase I server integration plant in Senai Airport City, Johor. The plant is expected to enhance Wiwynn’s vision of establishing a premier one-stop-shop manufacturing, service, and engineering center for the APAC region. Additionally, in collaboration with UTM, this initiative will further enhance the global prominence of both parties nationally and globally. The newly built server plant is committed to sustainable operations and is set to start its second operation phase in 2024.
