In a momentous event held on August 2, 2024, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) International proudly hosted the “Ambassador GlobaLecture (Indonesia)” featuring H.E. Dato’ Indera Hermono, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia. The distinguished ambassador delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking lecture on “Youth As The Main Pillar Of Diplomacy, Social Transformation, and Sustainability Of The Nation’s Generation In The Era Of Global Change,” underscoring the pivotal role of youth in shaping the future of nations amidst global challenges.

The lecture attracted a diverse audience of students, academicians, and professionals, serving as a clarion call for the youth to actively engage in nation-building and global diplomacy. Ambassador Hermono’s insights provided a roadmap for young leaders to harness their potential and spearhead transformative initiatives. He emphasized the importance of education, ethical leadership, and cross-cultural understanding in cultivating a new generation of visionary leaders committed to social equity and global harmony. The session was expertly moderated by Assoc. Prof. Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan, Director of UTM International, ensuring a dynamic and engaging discourse.

The event was officiated by Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif Saleh, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus, adding a prestigious touch to the occasion. Ambassador Hermono eloquently articulated the indispensable contributions of youth leaders in diplomacy and social transformation, with a particular focus on Indonesian youth. He emphasized that the vigor, innovation, and resilience of young people, especially from Indonesia, are essential in driving sustainable development and fostering diplomatic relations. Drawing from Indonesia’s rich history and dynamic present, he illustrated how youth leadership has been instrumental in navigating the complexities of global change and ensuring the sustainability of national progress.

In his address, the ambassador also underscored the critical need for collaborative efforts between nations to empower youth and facilitate their active participation in governance and policy-making. He advocated for the establishment of platforms that enable young minds, particularly from Indonesia, to exchange ideas, innovate, and contribute to global solutions. Such initiatives, he argued, are vital in creating a sustainable and peaceful world where future generations can thrive.

UTM International expresses its profound gratitude to H.E. Dato’ Indera Hermono for his invaluable contributions and to all participants who attended the lecture. This event marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to empower youth and promote global understanding. We look forward to hosting more such enlightening events that inspire our young leaders, both from Indonesia and around the world, to envision and realize a better future for all.
