KICS Visit to UTM Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 Aug. – On August 6, 2024, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur proudly hosted a visit from The Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS). The event took place at the Board of Directors Meeting Room on Level 17 of Menara Razak. This visit represented a significant milestone in the international collaboration between UTM and Korea’s largest information and communication technology (ICT) organization, which has a membership of 30,000 ICT practitioners.

The event included keynote speeches by Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif Saleh, Pro-Vice Chancellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur, and Prof. Seong-Ho Jeong, President of KICS. Both leaders emphasized the crucial role of cross-border collaboration in driving technological innovation and research excellence.

The visit was marked by the official opening ceremony of the KICS Malaysia Section and the appointment of Prof. Ir. Dr. Sevia Mahdaliza Idrus as the section’s first chairperson. This event signifies the strengthening relationship between KICS and UTM. The KICS Malaysia Section currently consists of over 20 members, including academics from various universities, such as UTM, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), and Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU).

KICS, in collaboration with NS Lab Ltd., demonstrated their commitment to fostering technological advancements by presenting the Purevoting Software, valued at USD 80,000.00, to UTM. The gift was presented by Professor Dong Seong Kim, CEO of NS Lab, to Professor Jafri Din, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), highlighting KICS’s dedication to supporting technological innovation at UTM.

The visit included discussions on enhancing international collaboration, focusing on joint research initiatives and the potential signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. The event concluded with a souvenir presentation, a group photo session, and an informative tour of UTM’s state-of-the-art campus and laboratories.

The KICS delegation comprised 12 distinguished professors and leaders from nine of Korea’s top universities, including Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (한국외국어대학교 – HUFS), Chung-Ang University (중앙대학교 – CAU), Pukyong National University (국립부경대학교 – PKNU), Kumoh National Institute of Technology (금오공과대학교 – KIT), Korea University (고려대학교 – KU), Ajou University (아주대학교), Dongguk University (동국대학교), Tongmyong University (동명대학교 – TU), and Tech University of Korea (한국공학대학교 – TU Korea). UTM’s delegation included Prof. Ali Selamat, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs), alongside deans, senior faculty members, and administrative leaders.

This visit is expected to pave the way for future collaborations that will benefit both institutions and contribute significantly to the global advancement of communications and information sciences.
