JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 13 – The International Laser Technology & Optics Symposium 2024 (iLATOS 2024) successfully concluded on 12 September at Sunway Hotel, Johor Bahru. Hosted by the Laser Center, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in collaboration with the Optical Society of Malaysia (OSM) and Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), the two-day event brought together a prominent group of international experts in laser technology and optics, offering a unique opportunity for collaboration among the brightest minds in the field.

Distinguished Experts and Researchers Unite at the Opening Session of iLATOS2024

Datuk Prof. Ulung Dr. Harith Ahmad, a Merdeka Award recipient, delivered an insightful plenary speech on “Ultrashort Optical Fiber Lasers,” where he shared his pioneering work that has led to significant advancements in Malaysia’s technological landscape. Keynote addresses were also delivered by Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Ashrif A. Bakarfrom Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ian Yulianti from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Indonesia, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Rafique from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Pakistan. Each speaker shared valuable insights and made significant contributions to the discussions at iLATOS 2024.

The symposium was officially opened by Assoc. Prof. Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek, Deputy Dean (Research, Development, and Innovation), Faculty of Science, and Acting Director of the Ibnu Sina Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (ISI-ISIR). In his opening remarks, he emphasized the event’s role as a “meeting of minds” that is shaping the future of laser technology and optics. He expressed pride in the diversity of participants, highlighting the collaborative nature of scientific discovery and encouraging meaningful discussions to push the boundaries of science and technology.
