Exchange students: Semester 2024/2025-01

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is excited to welcome 89 exchange students from 11 countries as part of its expanding international mobility program for Semester 1, 2024/2025. These students, representing regions across Europe, Asia, and North America, highlight UTM’s growing appeal as a destination for international education and reinforce its global reputation among academic institutions.

A welcome meet-and-greet session held on campus marked the students’ official introduction to UTM. During this event, each exchange student was paired with a designated buddy who would help them transition into campus life and integrate smoothly into the UTM community. The buddy program plays a crucial role in enriching the exchange experience, providing students with immediate connections to peers dedicated to supporting them throughout the semester.

In addition to meeting their buddies, the students received a comprehensive orientation covering UTM’s academic protocols and an overview of the events and activities planned to enhance their cultural journey. This structured orientation ensures that students feel prepared and supported in their academic pursuits and social experiences on campus.

This semester, exchange students represent 11 countries: Finland, China, Canada, Germany, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Portugal, the Philippines, and Poland. A total of 47 partner institutions contributed to this cohort, with China represented by 23 institutions, making it the largest contingent. The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) is proud to host the highest number of exchange students, welcoming 21 students from various disciplines. This milestone reflects UTM’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural academic engagement across various fields.

UTM has partnered with institutions worldwide to strengthen global partnerships and enhance educational exchanges. The increasing number of students from Europe, in particular, signals UTM’s expanding influence in that region, paving the way for even more robust collaborations in the future.

A special thank you goes to UTM Global Buddies for their dedication to ensuring that exchange students feel at home and supported during their time on campus. The combined efforts of UTM’s faculties, staff, and global partners are instrumental in realizing UTM’s vision: “Bring UTM to the world, bring the world to UTM.”
