Academic Visit by University of Southeastern Philippines to FEST

JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 4 – The Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology (FEST) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) recently hosted an academic visit from the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP). This event facilitated meaningful discussions on curriculum development, teaching practices, and approaches to mathematics education.

The delegation included two senior lecturers, Associate Professor Dr. Callaman and Associate Professor Dr. Yvonne, and 30 postgraduate students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Mathematics Education program. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for mutual learning and academic collaboration between the two institutions.

The program included insightful sessions presented by FEST experts, such as Dr. Mohamad Ikram Zakaria, Dr. Norulhuda Ismail, and Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Halim Abdullah. Their presentations centred around curriculum design, delivery methods, and assessment strategies for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. They also discussed Online Distance Learning (ODL) initiatives for master’s programs in Mathematics Education.

Additionally, FEST provided insights into the technological tools and learning management systems (LMS) used at UTM, highlighting platforms like UTM e-Learning and other digital resources that enhance teaching and learning experiences.

In addition to the formal sharing sessions, participants took part in group activities designed to reflect on their learning experiences and identify areas for improvement within their educational systems. Feedback sessions were held during which FEST presenters offered comparative insights into Malaysia’s educational practices, enhancing participants’ understanding of global pedagogical standards.

The participants responded positively, with many stating that the visit enhanced their understanding of effective teaching methodologies and assessment strategies. One student remarked, “This academic visit broadened our horizons, particularly in how other countries structure and deliver mathematics education. It has been a valuable learning experience for us.“

The visit also featured discussions between the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) and FEST management, focusing on potential collaborations. Topics included joint publications, student exchange programs, staff mobility, international service learning, and co-organizing conferences and colloquiums.

Dr. Mohd Rustam Mohd Rameli, Manager of External and Global Engagement at FEST, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “This visit marks a significant milestone in building a stronger collaboration between our institutions. We look forward to transforming these discussions into impactful initiatives that benefit both parties.“

This academic exchange highlights FEST’s commitment to fostering international collaborations and enhancing its global presence in educational sciences and technology. The visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to strengthening ties and pursuing shared goals in advancing education.
