KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11—Universitas Krisnadwipayana (UNKRIS) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) collaborated to bring together students and faculty from both institutions for an engaging week-long program on Mobility Inbound International Community Services. This initiative aimed to enhance understanding of IoT technologies and promote cultural exchange, benefiting academic engagement and community outreach.
The program took place from January 5 to January 11, 2025. It began with the arrival of UNKRIS participants, led by Dr. Dhistianti Mei Rahmawantari, the Head of the Delegation, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). After checking in at Residensi UTMKL, the program officially commenced on January 6.
The opening ceremony commenced with a welcome address by Assoc. Prof. Dr Nurulhuda Firdaus Mohd Azmi, the Head of the Department of Intelligent Informatics at the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI) at UTM. She warmly greeted the participants and expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration between UNKRIS and UTM.
Following her remarks, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Nur Azaliah Abu Bakar, Deputy Director of UTM International, delivered an informative briefing. She discussed UTM’s vision and emphasized the potential for future collaborations with UNKRIS. Dr. Nur Azaliah highlighted the strategic importance of international partnerships in advancing research and education, particularly in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The evening continued with a sharing session led by Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Rudziatul Akmam Dziyauddin, a senior lecturer from FAI UTM, who provided valuable insights into the Internet of Things (IoT), wireless technology, and the evolving digital environment. She offered the UNKRIS participants a comprehensive overview of how IoT transforms industries and daily life. Her session sparked engaging discussions about future applications of IoT in various fields, including education.
On January 7, the program shifted to hands-on workshops, where UNKRIS participants gained practical experience in IoT technology. Facilitated by Dr. Azizul Azizan, Dr. Mohd Shahrizal Rusli, and Yusnaidi Md Yusof, the workshop covered the integration of sensors and devices into functional IoT systems. This session provided an excellent opportunity for participants to build upon their theoretical knowledge, developing practical skills that would be useful for their upcoming school visit.
In the afternoon, participants reflected on what they had learned from the workshops and prepared for their school visit the following day, where they would demonstrate Internet of Things (IoT) concepts and projects to secondary school students.
The program’s highlight took place on January 8, when the group visited Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Keramat Wangsa, a secondary school in Kuala Lumpur, to showcase IoT concepts to Form 3 students. The UNKRIS students, having gained practical knowledge from the workshops, demonstrated various IoT projects, such as temperature sensors and light automation. They also guided the school students in building basic IoT devices, applying the knowledge they had acquired in the previous days. This visit not only allowed the UNKRIS participants to teach and engage with local students but also reinforced the educational value of IoT.
On January 9, the program focused on refining IoT projects and preparing for final presentations. Participants worked in groups to develop their presentations, integrating lessons learned from workshops and a school visit. UTM faculty members provided constructive feedback, helping the teams enhance their projects.
The program concluded with a formal closing ceremony on the same day, during which participants received certificates in recognition of their efforts. This ceremony offered everyone a chance to reflect on their achievements and the program’s successful outcomes. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suriyati Chuprat, Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs at FAI, UTM, delivered an appreciation speech to kick off the event. Additionally, the day featured a cultural exchange session, during which students from UNKRIS and UTM shared performances, traditional foods, and customs.
On January 10, participants took a break from the program to enjoy a sightseeing tour of Kuala Lumpur, where they explored the city’s iconic landmarks and vibrant culture. This opportunity allowed them to unwind and experience the diverse heritage of Malaysia’s capital.
