MJIIT Students Embark on Sakura Science Program 2025 in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 – Three students from the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), along with Ir. Ts. Dr. Norhasnidawani Johari departed for Japan to participate in the Sakura Science Academic Program 2025. This prestigious program, scheduled for February 18 to 23, 2025, at Akita University, is fully sponsored by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The program offers students a valuable opportunity to explore cutting-edge advancements in aircraft electrification while experiencing Japan’s rich culture and technological landscape.

The Sakura Science Program 2025, themed “An Exchange Program: Experience the Cutting-Edge of Aircraft Electrification and the Snow Country of Akita,” offers participants a week-long academic and cultural enrichment journey. Students will engage in various activities, starting with a guided tour of research facilities and factories on February 19. This tour will provide firsthand insights into Japan’s latest innovations in aviation and sustainable engineering.

On February 20, participants enjoyed a cultural excursion to Akita’s renowned hot springs and scenic lakes, allowing them to experience the winter landscapes and traditional customs of the snow country.

On February 21, attendees took part in an intensive technical seminar on aircraft electrification, with experts from IHI Corporation and Akita University presenting the latest advancements in electrified aviation technology. Additionally, students from MJIIT will deliver a presentation on Malaysia’s technological developments in this field. The day will conclude with a welcome party at a sushi restaurant, creating a platform for students and academics to interact, exchange ideas, and foster international collaboration.

The program continued on February 22 with an immersive cultural experience, where students participated in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and explored various cultural elements unique to Akita.

The Sakura Science Program aligns with MJIIT’s commitment to international academic collaboration and real-world learning experiences. Through this initiative, students will gain invaluable exposure to the latest aviation technologies, broaden their global perspectives, and build professional networks with leading researchers and industry experts in Japan. Additionally, the program acts as a bridge to strengthen Malaysia-Japan relations in engineering and technology.
