KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 19 – The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) recently held an engaging session as part of their FAI Research Webinar Series 2/2025. This virtual event, hosted on the Webex platform, drew over 100 participants from diverse fields, including academia, research, and industry, underscoring the growing interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and its practical applications.

The webinar featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sang-Hyo Park from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Kyungpook National University (KNU) in South Korea. The theme of this session was “AI + Visual Media: Transforming Text into Video, Video into 3D and Beyond.” Dr. Park delivered an insightful presentation that explored emerging trends at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision. He focused on multi-modality—the integration of text, video, and 3D visual data—providing attendees with a fresh perspective on how these technologies can work together to enhance media experiences.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roslina Ibrahim, Deputy Dean of Research, Development, and Innovation. The session was skillfully moderated by Ts. Dr. Basyarah Hamat, who facilitated engaging discussions throughout. One of the organizers, Dr. Fiza Abdul Rahim, a senior lecturer at FAI, praised the positive response from attendees. She stated, “Dr. Park’s expertise in multimodal research is enlightening, and his insights into advancing technologies will undoubtedly inspire future projects in the field.”

Dr. Park shed light on key concepts in multimodal research, clarifying advancements such as text-video retrieval and video generation. A highlight of his presentation was the innovative technique of 3D Gaussian splatting, which allows for high-quality, free-viewpoint rendering of 3D and 4D environments from simple 2D images. He emphasized the implications of these innovations for academic research and the standardization of digital media.

The interactive Q&A session that followed showcased the participants’ enthusiasm for AI-driven transformations in media. Dr. Siti Haida, a lecturer from UTM, remarked, “Dr. Park’s discussion on the applications of AI in education and entertainment has opened my eyes to new possibilities for my own research.” Her insights reflected the strong interest in how these advancements could impact various fields of inquiry.

The webinar concluded with a Certificate of Appreciation presented to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sang-Hyo Park for his enlightening presentation on AI and visual media.
