MOU Signing between UTM and TNB ILSAS

BANGI, Apr 28  Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and TNB Integrated Learning Solutions Sdn. Bhd. (TNB ILSAS) formalized their strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a ceremony held at TNB ILSAS in Bangi.

This significant occasion marks the beginning of a robust collaboration aimed at enhancing professional training and research in the energy sector. This initiative aligns with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and supports the aspiration for Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050.

In his officiating speech, UTM’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Rosli Md Ilias, highlighted that the MoU represents an important milestone in the collaborative development of industry-scale training programs. These programs will focus on clean energy technologies, smart grids, digital energy solutions, and future energy research.

The collaboration is led by the Institute of Future Energy (IFE) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), which plays a crucial role in providing strategic expertise, industry-focused training programs, and research support in energy transition technologies. A key contributor, the Centre for Hydrogen Energy (CHE), has been instrumental as a content provider and trainer for hydrogen-related modules aimed at TNB executives, delivering these sessions since 2023.

The UTM delegation was headed by Prof. Dr. Rosli Md Ilias, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md Pauzi Abdullah, the Director of IFE; Prof. Dr. Aishah Abd Jalil, the Director of CHE; Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Norzanah Rosmin, the Director of the Centre for Electrical Energy Systems (CEES); and Ts. Dr. Sathiabama T. Thirugnana, the Director of UTM-OTEC. They were accompanied by senior officers and researchers from IFE.

Through this collaboration, UTM will capitalize on the expertise of IFE, which encompasses three key research centers: the Centre for Hydrogen Energy (CHE), the Centre for Electrical Energy Systems (CEES), and the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Centre (UTM-OTEC). These centers focus on hydrogen technology, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and ocean thermal energy research.

Since 2023, initial engagements between UTM and TNB ILSAS have resulted in over 40 training sessions covering hydrogen, bioenergy, ammonia, and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies. These sessions have received highly positive feedback and have facilitated the development of specialized training modules.

The ceremony was also attended by Tn. Hj. Mohamad Ariff Zainol, Chairman of the TNB ILSAS Board of Directors, Zulkifli Salahudin, Managing Director of TNB ILSAS, and other senior management representatives from TNB ILSAS.
