JOHOR BAHRU, 22 June 2025 – Sparking a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully concluded its ‘Robotics For All (Tahap 2) Kumpulan B’ programme over the weekend. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, held from 21-22 June 2025, aimed to introduce secondary school students to the fascinating world of robotics and programming.

The programme took place simultaneously across six secondary schools: SMK Pulai Jaya, SMK Kangkar Pulai, SMK Seri Pulai Perdana, SMK Senai, SMK Dato’ Mohd Yunos Sulaiman, and SMK Pekan Nanas. Participants were immersed in the fundamentals of robot programming, guided by student facilitators from UTM’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The curriculum covered essential concepts such as LED and OLED technology, infrared sensors, block coding for robot movement, obstacle avoidance, line following, and motion control. Hands-on sessions allowed students to apply their newfound knowledge, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

The two-day event culminated in a mini-competition, where students showcased their skills and creativity in designing and programming robots to perform specific tasks. This element of competition not only added an element of excitement but also served as an evaluation of their learning progress. The ‘Robotics For All’ initiative underscores UTM’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. By providing students with early exposure to robotics and programming, UTM aims to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world. Such initiatives align with national efforts to boost STEM education and cultivate a technologically proficient workforce. The program reflects UTM’s dedication to community engagement and its role in contributing to the nation’s technological advancement. The success of ‘Robotics For All (Tahap 2) Kumpulan B’ highlights the importance of collaborative efforts between universities and schools in fostering a passion for STEM among young Malaysians. UTM plans to continue expanding its outreach programmes to inspire even more students to explore the exciting possibilities within the fields of science and technology, as the nation seeks to be at the forefront of global technological advancement.
