SINGAPORE, 13 Aug. ─ The Malaysia–Singapore Higher Education Leadership 2025 marked the first-ever gathering of the top leadership of 14 Public Universities from Malaysia and their distinguished counterparts from Singapore at PARKROYAL on Beach Road, Singapore.
Chaired by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Md Amin Md Taff, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris and Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Rectors of Public Universities, Malaysia, and hosted by Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the high-level roundtable served as a platform to strengthen bilateral collaboration in research, innovation, academic mobility, and leadership development.

The programme featured an insight sharing session by the UTM Vice-Chancellor on the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), highlighting opportunities for academia–industry collaboration. It also included a roundtable discussion titled “Reimagining Malaysia–Singapore Higher Education: Talent, Innovation and ASEAN Impact”, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashid Husain, Associate Vice-Chancellor (Strategy and Global Eminence), UTM.

Among the prominent Singaporean representatives were Prof. Tan Eng Chye (President, National University of Singapore), Prof. Lily Kong (President, Singapore Management University), Prof. Robbie Goh (Provost, Singapore University of Social Sciences), Prof. John Thong (Deputy President & Provost, Singapore Institute of Technology), Prof. Neil Murphy (Associate Provost, Nanyang Technological University), Prof. Ricky Ang (Associate Provost, Singapore University of Technology and Design), and Leon Foo from the Ministry of Education Singapore.

The session underscored the shared commitment of both nations to advancing higher education excellence, fostering impactful cross-border partnerships, and contributing to the region’s development through talent, innovation, and collaboration.
