KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 – Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) students continue to excel at the national stage, showcasing their strong capabilities in Japanese language and performance arts.
Every year, major Japanese language competitions in Malaysia such as the AEON 1% Club Japanese Speech Contest and the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) Skit Contest that provide a prestigious platform for university students to demonstrate language proficiency, creativity, confidence, and cultural appreciation. These contests attract talented participants nationwide and are known for their high standards, making the achievements of MJIIT students especially commendable.
This year, two outstanding final-year students, Henry Lim Kim Yuan from Electronic System Engineering (ESE) and Young Shun Jie from Chemical Process Engineering (CPE) brought honour to MJIIT by winning the Excellence Award at the AEON 1% Club Japanese Speech Contest 2025 held on 3 December at AEON Mall Shah Alam. Competing among the best Japanese language learners from Malaysian institutions, both students emerged in the Top 3 winners. Their strong oratory skills, confidence, and compelling delivery impressed the judges, earning them the opportunity to represent Malaysia at the international level in Japan in February 2026.
Their trip will be fully sponsored by the AEON 1% Club, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to cultural exchange and youth development. This achievement highlights the students’ dedication to mastering the language, supported by the continuous guidance of the Japanese Language & Cultural Center (JLCC) at MJIIT.
Adding to the excitement, a team of nine talented students under the name JLCC Productions secured First Place at the JFKL Skit Contest 2025, organised by The JFKL online. This annual contest challenges students to create and perform an original skit entirely in Japanese, emphasising storytelling, creativity, linguistic accuracy, acting skills, and teamwork. JLCC Productions impressed the judges with their emotionally rich and cinematic performance titled ‘The Kindness Equation’ ( 方程式の優しさ), a story that blended humour, heartfelt moments, and Japanese cultural values.
The JLCC Productions team was led by producer and team leader Ahmad Afif Mohd Haizam from the Mechanical Precision Engineering (MPE) programme. The creative direction, videography and editing were handled by Safuan Hakim Shani from the Software Engineering (SE) programme, while the scriptwriting and co-direction were helmed by Wan Zafirzan Wan Tarmiza, also from SE.
The cast included Ryan Lau Juen Tsun, Muhammad Amjad Samsul Ariffin and Ahmad Zaim Jumain from Mechanical Precision Engineering (MPE); Muhammad Afif Haziq Zulhairi from SE; Lai Hwa Yuan from ESE; and Yat Yaw Huei, a graduate of CPE.
These accomplishments showcase MJIIT’s growing reputation in Japanese language education and cultural engagement. Through structured classes, creative activities, competitions, and cultural immersion programmes, JLCC continues to nurture students’ talents and broaden their global perspectives.
