Paving the Way for Sustainable Decommissioning: SEELOS Final Meeting Concludes

Hosted by Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) on 21 February 2024



Jakarta, Indonesia 21 February 2024 – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia, and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia, hosted the final meeting of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE)-funded project on safe and sustainable offshore decommissioning. The event brought together project partners to review progress, finalize deliverables, and discuss the completion of this significant initiative.

The event began with an engaging project overview delivered by the project leader, providing a clear understanding of the initiative’s significance and its impact on offshore decommissioning practices. The closing remarks celebrated the milestones achieved and emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing decommissioning challenges.

Each work package leader presented a detailed overview of their progress, highlighting achievements, challenges, and planned activities. These presentations offered valuable insights into the project’s development and shaped strategies for addressing any gaps.

A key focus of the meeting was finalizing the project’s ultimate deliverables: a comprehensive report and actionable guidelines for safe and sustainable decommissioning and enhanced safety in recycling facilities. The discussions outlined the structure and content of these documents.

This final meeting marked a significant milestone in the project’s journey, underscoring the importance of collaboration, transparency, and innovation in achieving its goals. With the final report and guidelines in progress reaching its final stage, the consortium is well-prepared to contribute meaningful solutions to the offshore decommissioning and recycling sectors.

Attendees left the meeting with a shared commitment to advancing safe and sustainable practices, ensuring the project’s lasting impact within the industry.
