TALK SYNOPSES
What each technical session will explore.
1 — Digital restoration of Minnan-style buildings · Prof. Dr. Wang Dongye
This talk explores the integration of 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies in the restoration, preservation and engineering application of traditional Minnan-style buildings. It highlights how digital heritage documentation and advanced manufacturing techniques can improve restoration accuracy, structural assessment and the sustainable conservation of historic architecture.
2 — Decoding earthquake damage · Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darren Chian Siau Chen
This talk examines the role of post-earthquake reconnaissance in understanding structural failures and the mechanisms behind earthquake-induced damage. It discusses how systematic field observations, engineering judgement and scientific analysis work together to inform resilient design, forensic investigations and future disaster risk reduction.
3 — Structural assessment for LRT · Prof. Ir. Dr. Norhisham bin Bakhary
This talk presents the principles and methodologies for assessing the structural integrity, safety and serviceability of Light Rail Transit infrastructure throughout its operational life. It covers inspection techniques, condition evaluation, structural health monitoring and engineering approaches to support maintenance, rehabilitation and long-term asset management.
4 — Resilience in modern port operations · Ir. Shahrul Idzham bin Zainon Aznan
This talk explores strategies for enhancing the resilience of modern port infrastructure to withstand operational demands, climate-related hazards and other disruptive events. It highlights engineering solutions, risk management practices and digital technologies that improve the reliability, safety and continuity of port operations.
5 — Tunnel forensics in the digital era · Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Rini Asnida binti Abdullah
This talk presents the Meru Tunnel PLUS case study, highlighting the engineering challenges encountered during tunnel operation and the approaches adopted for structural assessment, investigation and remedial measures. It discusses key lessons learned and best practices for ensuring the long-term safety, durability and serviceability of highway tunnel infrastructure.
6 — Diagnosis, repair & rehabilitation · Sika Expert
