HO CHI MINH CITY, 5 Aug. – A total of 20 students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) participated in the Academic Synergy: Malaysia & Vietnam Colloquium 2025, a collaborative academic program with students and lecturers from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT). The two-day event, held from August 5 to 6, 2025, aimed to foster cross-border academic exchange, research collaboration, and cultural understanding between the two institutions. The program featured keynote speeches by distinguished lecturers, research presentations by students from both universities, and technical visits to specialized laboratories at HCMUT.
The program commenced with an opening ceremony at Room 404, Block C5, HCMUT. Representing UTM was Ts. Dr. Noor Azlinda Ahmad, while Dr. Nguyen Quang Nam attended on behalf of HCMUT. Both representatives delivered welcome speeches, highlighting the objectives and significance of the collaboration. This was followed by institutional presentations that showcased the academic strengths of UTM’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) and HCMUT’s Faculty of Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

Two keynote addresses provided valuable insights into advanced engineering topics. Dr. Noor Syazwani Mansor from UTM presented on Solid Insulation of High Voltage Application, discussing the latest developments in electrical insulation technologies for high-voltage systems. From HCMUT, Dr. Pham Dang Khoa delivered a presentation on A Hybrid Asymmetric Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Strategies with Reduced Common Mode Voltage (CMV) and Low Harmonic Distortion for Three-Level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) Converters, offering innovative solutions to enhance power electronics efficiency and performance.

In the afternoon, the colloquium sessions took place simultaneously in Room 502 and Room 503, featuring a series of student research presentations from both UTM and HCMUT. Each presenter was allocated ten minutes for their presentation, followed by a five-minute question & answer (Q&A) session. The topics covered a wide range of engineering fields, including renewable energy systems, electrical insulation materials, control algorithms, high-voltage engineering, and artificial intelligence applications in electrical systems. The sessions provided a dynamic platform for students to exchange ideas, receive constructive feedback, and explore potential research collaborations.

On 6 August, the academic exchange continued with technical visits to three specialized laboratories at HCMUT. The UTM delegation visited the Control Laboratory, the Electronics Laboratory, and the High Voltage Laboratory. These visits enabled participants to gain firsthand exposure to advanced research facilities, observe ongoing projects, and engage in technical discussions with local lecturers and students. The hands-on exposure allowed UTM students to broaden their understanding of practical engineering applications while fostering professional relationships with their Vietnamese counterparts.

The Academic Synergy: Malaysia & Vietnam Colloquium 2025 not only highlighted the academic and research capabilities of students from both UTM and HCMUT but also reinforced the institutional partnership between Malaysia and Vietnam. Through knowledge sharing, technical engagement, and cross-cultural interaction, the program has laid a strong foundation for future joint initiatives in engineering education and research. The organisers would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Raysha Medical Supplies Sdn. Bhd. and R&F Development Sdn. Bhd. for their generous sponsorship, which greatly contributed to the success of this programme.
