KUALA LUMPUR, 2nd Aug. – In a captivating event that brought together young minds and diplomatic figures, the Ambassador Global Lecture (AGL) took center stage at the International Youth Symposium 2024 today at Dewan Azman Hashim, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur.
The event was graced by His Excellency (HE) Dato’ Indera Hermono, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia, who served as the Honorary Speaker. His insightful address focused on the crucial role of youth in shaping diplomacy and driving national development.
Moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan, Director of UTM International, the lecture attracted a vibrant audience of more than 100 participants, including staff, international students from UTM and other universities, and diplomats from the Republic of Indonesia Embassy.
The theme, “Youth as the Main Pillar of Diplomacy, Social Transformation, and Sustainability of the Nation’s Generation in the Era of Global Change,” deeply resonated with the attendees. The discussion emphasized the crucial role of empowering youth as agents of change in our rapidly evolving world.
In his lecture, HE Dato’ Indera Hermono covered several important topics:
- The Role of Youth in Diplomacy and National Development: This highlighted the potential for young people to bridge cultural and political divides in order to promote international cooperation.
- The Importance of Good Citizenship and Contribution to the Nation: This encouraged youth to actively engage in their communities and make positive contributions to society.
- Strategic Issue: Malaysia as the Next Chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN): This explored Malaysia’s upcoming role and the opportunities it presents for young leaders to influence regional policy and development.
Professor Ts. Dr. Abd Latif Saleh, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus, was among the distinguished VIPs present. In his welcoming remarks, he emphasized the critical role that educational institutions play in nurturing future leaders who will contribute to national and global progress.
The event not only provided a platform for thought-provoking dialogue but also reinforced the idea that today’s youth are essential in driving positive change and ensuring a sustainable future for all nations.
