JOHOR BAHRU, 29 Jan – Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) collaborated with the international non-governmental organization (NGO) ASEZ WAO to organize the ASEZ WAO Environmental Forum 2024. The forum brought together approximately 300 participants, including 70 university students from Korea, alongside representatives from prestigious institutions such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaya (UM), and Southampton University.
The forum included presentations from various participants, including a presentation from UTM Campus Sustainability (UTMCS) Director, Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Fadhil Md. Din, about the role of educational institutions in responding to climate change. MBJB also delivered a presentation titled “Exploring the Role of Government Agencies in Responding to Climate Change.”
In addition to discussions and presentations on climate change, the participants enjoyed an orchestral performance by ASEZ WAO, a traditional Malay dance performance by the UTM cultural department, and a traditional Korean fan dance.
The forum aimed to raise awareness about climate change among the participants. The government needs to take more drastic measures to deal with the issue of climate change. Individuals should also practice environmentally friendly practices and urge government and company leaders to act immediately.
