SKUDAI, Dec 9 – Laughter, movement, and curious questions filled the school compound of Sekolah Kebangasaan (SK) Taman Mutiara Rini as Year 6 pupils took part in a hands-on energy learning experience organised by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on 9 December 2025. The Academic Service Learning (ASL) programme, titled “Bright Minds: Discover, Learn, Power Up!”, transformed electrical energy education into an engaging journey of discovery through games, challenges, and teamwork.

Conducted under the Electrical Energy Literacy (SKEF2023) course, the programme was led by Eimann Arrazi Hazli as Programme Director and guided by Dr. Nurul Nadia Ibrahim, Course Advisor.

The programme involved 30 pupils who actively participated in activities designed to make learning about electricity both meaningful and memorable.

The highlight of the programme was the “Energy Adventure”, where pupils rotated through four interactive stations. Station 1: Renewable & Non-Renewable Energy had teams draw balls representing energy sources, collecting green balls for renewable energy while red and blue balls added playful challenges, helping pupils understand sustainable energy.

Station 2: Electricity Transmission Play let pupils act out the journey of electricity from power plants to homes, using balls to represent electricity and learning about energy flow, losses, and safety. At Station 3: Be Smart, Stay Safe, pupils took part in a digital quiz on electrical safety and energy conservation, encouraging discussion, quick thinking, and teamwork.

Station 4: Hit the Right Energy Sector involved tossing sandbags into labeled holes to identify energy and non-energy sectors in Malaysia, reinforcing how energy is used across different sectors in a fun and interactive way.

The day concluded with a quiz session, feedback activities, and an award presentation recognising pupils’ enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork. Beyond benefiting the school pupils, the programme provided UTM students with valuable real-world experience in community engagement, communication, and leadership.

The Bright Minds: Discover, Learn, Power Up! programme demonstrated how electrical energy education can be delivered in an engaging and impactful manner. By combining interactive activities with real-world applications, the programme reinforced UTM’s role in extending knowledge beyond the classroom while making learning about energy exciting and memorable for young learners.
