Nov 6, 2024 | UTM NewsHub

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) has recently garnered increased attention in Pakistan, aligning with the direction of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. In light of this, the Centre for Advanced Studies in Pure and Applied Mathematics (CASPAM), led by Prof. Dr. Khalid Saifullah Syed at Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan, took the initiative to organize an OBE training for education institutions across Pakistan.

Known for its strong track records in conducting OBE and assessment-related programs, experts from the UTM Centre for Engineering Education (CEE) were invited to deliver the training, The distinguished speakers included Dr. Naziha Ahmad Azli, Prof. Dr. Fatin Aliah Phang, Dr. Nurzal Effiyana Ghazali, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yudariah Mohammad Yusof.

The OBE training were conducted online as half-day sessions, from 10 to 12 October 2024. It focused on providing participants with an overview of key topics, including an introduction to OBE, common misconceptions, student-centred learning (SCL), program & course level assessments and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). The aim was to provide participants a comprehensive understanding of OBE.

55 participants from 19 institutions across Pakistan participated in the training which was conducted in an interactive way using various digital technologies as exposure to the application of SCL. The training were also facilitated by Dr. Noraini Ibrahim, Dr. Aishah Rosli, Dr. Nurul Aini Mohd Ahyan and Dr. Mitra Mohd Addi to provide feedback to smaller groups of participants in the breakout sessions.

UTM CEE received positive feedback for introducing fresh concepts in both the delivery of the training and the OBE framework. UTM CEE remains committed to supporting institutions in curriculum innovation, both locally and internationally. UTM CEE welcomes further inquiries from interested participants or institutions seeking collaboration on related courses.
