The Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology (FEST), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), continues to strengthen its position as a global hub for higher education, proudly hosting students from more than 30 nations across the world. With 470 international students currently pursuing their postgraduate studies, 336 at the PhD level and 134 at the Master’s level, FEST exemplifies the spirit of internationalization and diversity that defines UTM.
FEST’s vibrant community of scholars spans multiple continents. From Asia, the faculty welcomes students from China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, and the Philippines. From the Middle East, the community includes students from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In Africa, FEST hosts students from Nigeria, Ghana, Sudan, Libya, Malawi, Somalia, and Egypt. From the Americas and Europe, students also arrive from Canada and the Bahamas, further enriching the diversity of perspectives on campus.

This global reach is made possible by FEST’s wide-ranging academic portfolio. With 10 undergraduate programs and 19 postgraduate programs, the faculty offers one of the most diverse academic offerings in UTM. At the undergraduate level, FEST provides Bachelor of Science with Education in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Sports Science, Islamic Studies, and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language), alongside Bachelor of Technology with Education in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and Design & Technology. At the postgraduate level, students can pursue the Master of Education, Master of Philosophy, or PhD by Research in areas such as Educational Technology, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Education, TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training), Management and Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, and Psychology

A unique strength of FEST lies in its flexible learning pathways, designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of learners. Postgraduate programs are offered through traditional coursework and research, as well as via Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and PESISIR (blended weekend and modular learning for professionals). In particular, the ODL mode has attracted enrolments from countries such as the UAE, Syria, China, Myanmar, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, Pakistan, Canada, Vietnam, and Taiwan, underscoring FEST’s commitment to expanding access to quality education beyond geographical boundaries.
With a total enrolment of 2,333 students, including 1,240 postgraduates, FEST stands as the faculty with the highest number of postgraduate students in UTM. This achievement reflects its strong academic foundation and its role as a key contributor to UTM’s mission of producing globally competent graduates.
