Forging AI Collaboration: University of Florida and UTM Explore Joint Endeavors

UTM Kuala Lumpur, January 18, 2024 – In a pivotal meeting held on January 17, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Masoud Gheisari, an esteemed Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) alumni, returned to the campus to explore collaborative opportunities. His visit focused on advancing AI initiatives in the construction industry, has paved the way for potential joint endeavours between the University of Florida (UF) and UTM’s Construction Quality & Maintenance (CQM) Research Group, led by Dr. Nor Fazilah Hashim.

Dr. Gheisari, who is presently working as an Associate Professor at the University of Florida (UF), had numerous discussions with faculty members and researchers from both institutions. Their primary focus was to explore various ways to collaborate and exchange knowledge, to advance AI research and its application in construction and related fields.

During the meeting, Dr. Gheisari and representatives from UTM’s CQM Research Group discussed collaboration on research activities, exploring potential research collaborations to address pressing challenges and advance knowledge in the field of AI. They also talked about creating academic programs related to AI in construction to equip students with the skills necessary for AI applications in the industry. Additionally, the meeting focused on enhancing construction processes and project outcomes through innovative applications of BIM and VR technologies, building upon UF’s advancements in these areas. Lastly, Dr. Gheisari expressed UF’s commitment to sharing its expertise through training sessions and consultancy services, bridging the gap between academia and industry.

During Dr. Gheisari’s visit, plans were made to solidify the collaboration between UF and UTM through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU will outline shared objectives and commitments to signify a significant step forward in advancing innovation and knowledge exchange between the two institutions.
