KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 – The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully organized an online sharing session titled FAI Academic Publishing 101: High-Impact Review Paper Using AI Tools. The session was delivered by Dr. Husna Hafiza R. Azami, an experienced educator, researcher and AI expert in academic publishing and data analysis. This session was conducted via Webex with a full-day session. The session attracted a total of 145 participants, consisting of 44 UTM staff members, 94 UTM postgraduate students (Master’s and PhD levels), and 7 external participants from other institutions such as Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

Opening by the moderator of the session

This sharing session was designed to help participants prepare impactful review articles for high-impact journals by introducing practical strategies for organizing literature, synthesizing content, and refining writing using AI tools. Participants had the opportunity to experience live demonstrations and engage in guided, hands-on activities that illustrated how AI can assist in various stages of the academic writing process, such as organizing references, improving manuscript clarity, and structuring ideas. The session also emphasized the importance of using AI ethically and responsibly in academic research and publishing.

The session was divided into two main parts. The morning segment included three sessions: Session 1 focused on high-impact review papers, different types of reviews, and the foundations of systematic literature reviews (SLR); Session 2 discussed how to frame review questions and design protocols using AI tools; and Session 3 covered AI-powered literature searches, screening, and data extraction. After the lunch break, the afternoon segment continued with Session 4, which addressed writing practices and AI ethics, followed by Session 5 on targeting journals and responsible submission strategies.

Dr. Husna Hafiza gave quizzes to participants at the end of the session

The sharing session concluded with a quiz and an engaging Q&A segment, where Dr. Husna Hafiza offered her expert insights and addressed participants’ questions regarding academic writing and publishing. Her guidance was invaluable in helping participants navigate the challenges of creating high-quality review articles and applying AI responsibly in research.

Through initiatives like this, FAI demonstrates its commitment to supporting the academic community by promoting the use of modern tools to enhance the quality of scholarly work. According to feedback from participants, the session was well-organized and highly beneficial. Many attendees suggested that similar programs should be continued in the future to assist staff, students, and researchers in learning how to write quality articles and publish in high-impact journals.
