JOHOR BAHRU, Mar 6—The International Student Orientation Program (ISOP) for Semester 2, 2024/2025, organized by the Student Experience Unit at UTM International, was a success. It brought together 100 international students for an informative and engaging start to their academic journey. The event provided essential information, guidance, and resources to ensure a smooth transition into their studies and life in Malaysia.

The program was officially opened by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Ts. Dr Ali Selamat, who welcomed all international students to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). In his speech, Prof. Ts. Dr Ali emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for students from around the world. He encouraged students to embrace the campus’s diversity and take full advantage of the various academic, cultural, and extracurricular opportunities.

An Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) representative, Naem Mubarak Segu Mubarak, along with Zinnun Al-Rasid Shiful Bahari, conducted an in-depth session. They provided students with valuable insights into administrative procedures, such as visa and immigration processes, ensuring that students understood their legal obligations and requirements while in Malaysia.

The visa officer, Dr. Azlin Abd Jamil, delivered crucial information about visa applications, renewals, and immigration compliance. She addressed common questions related to student passports and offered advice on how to effectively manage visa matters to avoid complications during their studies.

The Student Disciplinary & Welfare Unit presented information on the university’s Code of Conduct and disciplinary procedures. They stressed the importance of respecting local customs and regulations and highlighted the resources available for student well-being, including counselling services, conflict resolution, and support systems.

The Security Division provided important details about campus safety, emergency protocols, and personal safety tips. Students received guidance on how to stay safe both on and off campus and instructions on how to contact security in case of emergencies.

To ensure that all international students feel supported and safe during their time at UTM, a representative from the UTM Health Centre outlined the facilities and services available, including general medical care, dental assistance, mental health services, immunizations, and emergency care.

The final session was led by an insurance company representative who shared details about health insurance for all UTM students, including international students. The plan covers a variety of services, such as doctor visits, prescription medications, and mental health care. It also provides assistance for emergency care if needed.

The program concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to ask questions and clarify any doubts with the representatives. This session fostered a sense of community and open communication, helping students feel more connected and supported throughout their academic journey. Overall, the Orientation Program for International Students for the 2nd Semester of 2024/2025 successfully equipped students with the necessary tools and information for a fulfilling academic and cultural experience in Malaysia.
