Over 50 international students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), spanning both the Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur campuses, converged at the recent annual International Student Society (ISS) Management Camp 2023/2024. Held from January 11th to 13th, 2024, at Savanna Hill Resort in Ulu Tiram, Johor, the event drew participants from 17 ISS country chapters, ISS Kuala Lumpur, ISS Central, and Global Buddies.
Hosted by UTM International in collaboration with the UTM Security Division, the ISS Management Camp 2023/2024 aimed to equip and empower ISS presidents and top management committees with essential leadership skills for effectively managing and coordinating their respective ISS communities. The camp’s objectives included presenting a one-year program plan for the 2023/2024 session, providing guidelines and procedures for program proposals, and fostering understanding among participants through team-building activities.
The three-day camp commenced with a welcoming address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norahim bin Ibrahim, the Associate Director (Global Education and Experience). Dr. Norahim underscored the crucial roles and responsibilities of each ISS in planning and executing high-impact programs aligned with UTM’s enVision 2025 and addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Internationalization at Home Agenda. Activities included ice-breaking sessions, hands-on program proposal workshops, tele matches, group performances, and a treasure hunt, with participants organized into various groups throughout the program.
The ISS Management Camp 2023/2024 concluded with a closing remark and prize-giving ceremony by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin bin Abu Hassan, the Director of UTM International. Dr. Mohd Ariffin extended his gratitude and congratulations to all participants for their unwavering support of UTM through active program participation.
