Of Superheroes and Teamwork: PGSS UTM 2024 Strategic Planning Workshop and Teambuilding

The Post Graduate Students Society (PGSS) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) held its 2024 Strategic Planning Workshop on February 6 and 7 at the UTM Johor Bahru campus. This event was a vibrant blend of strategic planning and team building, aimed at fostering camaraderie and unleashing the spirit of achievement among PGSS UTM members.

Organized by the School of Graduate Studies (SPS), UTM, day one saw 34 representatives from all 12 faculties of UTM Johor Bahru and UTM Kuala Lumpur gather at the SPS Meeting room, UTM Johor. The event began with warm welcoming remarks from PGSS UTM advisor Dr. Norah Md Noor, followed by insightful presentations on upcoming activities by PGSS UTM President, Ms. Evarina Amiron. During the faculty program planning, PGSS members tailored their program suggestions to meet the unique needs of postgraduate students from each faculty.

Day two’s team building activities took place at the UTM Recreational Forest, facilitated by the UTM Toastmasters Club and SPS staff. Participants engaged in jungle trekking, traversing the forest and streams while embodying crafted superhero personas and showcasing superpowers. The main facilitators were the UTM Toastmasters Club, with secretariat support from SPS staff. Members from the Toastmasters Club, including Mr. Mohammad Ridhwan bin Reyaz Ahmad, Ms. Rozana Alik, Mr. Mohammad Al Takrouri, Ms. Almi Mahmod, and Ms. Rozita Jayus, led the activities. Inspirational talks from Dr. Nor Ain binti Husein of the Faculty of Science UTM, and Dr. Abdulmumini Inda from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) UTM, added an inspirational touch. The activities required groups to produce a short video about their superhero creations for the Toastmasters Club and PGSS UTM social media, followed by a superhero runway show and team cheer.

The workshop and team building were a resounding success, providing an excellent mix of physical activity, teamwork, and intellectual stimulation. The feedback received indicated that the program was enjoyable and effective in fostering teamwork among PGSS UTM members.
