Poetry Writing Project at SMK Mutiara Rini

SKUDAI, Aug 26—The Language Academy is organising a community service learning project called “Self-Expression Through Poetry Writing,” led by Dr. Faraha Hamidi. The project involves students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Mutiara Rini and aims to encourage them to use poetry as a means of creative self-expression.

Two of the four modules, focusing on writing and illustrating poetry, were completed on two consecutive Saturdays in August 2024. Miss Atiqah Shahruddin conducted the first module, which focused on poetry writing. She shared techniques and strategies for writing compelling poetry and encouraged students to express their thoughts and emotions through words.

Mr. Ghazali Bunari ran the second module. In this sharing session, students explored the art of illustrating poetry. Mr. Ghazali shared how images and visuals can be used to interpret and enhance the meaning of poetry. This session was to help students visualise their poetry through images.

Language Academy staff facilitated the two sessions and guided and assisted the students throughout the programmes.

The project will end with the publication of a zine that showcases students’ poems and illustrations. The zine is expected to be published either at the end of this year or in early 2025.
