KUALA LUMPUR, 4 Dec. – Malaysia Japan International Institute of Japan (MJIIT) has successfully sent ten selected students from Mechanical Precision Engineering (2 students), Electronic System Engineering (3 students), Chemical Process Engineering (4 students) and Software Engineering (1 student) together with an accompanying lecturer, Dr Nor Shahida binti Hasan to join the Sakura Science Program 2022 held at Tokyo City University (TCU) from December 4 to December 10, 2022.
The Sakura Exchange Program provides opportunities for students to not only experience exploring Japan’s culture and lifestyle but also acquire advanced knowledge in science and technology. The exchange students were attached to different labs based on their background of studies to complete various assigned lab tasks. The students also experienced the kohai-senpai tradition, where the local students keenly assisted them with their tasks. They are given roughly three days (6th December – 8th December) to complete their assigned lab tasks. On their 4th day, they were asked to present their results and findings to the lecturers and postgraduate students. Additionally, they also had the opportunity to learn more about the global environment, future technologies, space exploration, from the smallest of atoms to the size of the known universe and many others during their visit to Miraikan, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.
After their daily research activities at the labs, they were accompanied by their local lab mates or MJIIT seniors to visit several popular tourist attractions in Japan, such as Shibuya, Akihabara, Asakusa, Odaiba and many more. From visiting these places, it can be observed that Japan is very clean from its walkway to the road and, most importantly, the toilets. It was very sophisticated and hygienic, not to mention futuristic. As days went by, they experienced a whole lot of Japanese culture, eating halal ramen, visiting temples and shrines, shopping at Japanese stores, fashions and many others. This program not only provided the students with research knowledge and studies but also developed good personalities within them.
