Ireland, 29 January 2024: Three alumni from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Mr. Tey Wei Kang, Mr. Nik Faisal, and Mr. Muhammad Syafiq bin Ramli, recently visited Ireland to discuss the expansion of robotics deployment in the semiconductor industry. These individuals are an integral part of DF Automation & Robotics (DFA), a prominent Malaysian robotics company, and have significantly contributed to its growth and success. Mr. Tey Wei Kang serves as the General Manager of Product Realization Solution, Mr. Nik Faisal is the General Manager of DF Robotics, and Mr. Muhammad Syafiq bin Ramli works as an R&D Engineer at DFR.
DF Automation & Robotics is a company that specializes in offering autonomous mobile robot (AMR) solutions for various industries. These cutting-edge mobile robots are capable of autonomous movement, effectively transporting heavy payloads with minimal human intervention. This revolutionary technology not only reduces labor dependency but also enhances productivity and minimizes human error.
DF owes its success to two proprietary AI software solutions – NavWiz and DFleet. NavWiz serves as the cognitive engine of the robots, enabling seamless autonomous navigation, while DFleet facilitates efficient fleet management and optimizes traffic control in factory environments. These state-of-the-art software solutions have been continuously enhanced by DF’s dedicated R&D team since 2015, and power a range of AMR models, including Zalpha, Zetha, Zamma, and Titan. These AMRs can carry from 300kg up to 2 tonnes. With over 500 robots deployed worldwide, DF has successfully exported its solutions to countries such as Singapore, Thailand, India, Mexico, and Europe, thereby showcasing Malaysia’s prowess in global technology markets.
Dr. Yeong Che Fai, Mr. Ricky Yap, and Mr. Tan Ping Hua, all of whom are UTM graduates, founded the parent company of DF Automation & Robotics. Dr. Yeong is an Associate Professor at UTM’s Department of Control and Mechatronics and an associate member of Center of Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (CAIRO) UTM. Together with his colleagues, they have been at the forefront of technological innovation in Malaysia. Using their academic background and practical experience gained from UTM, they have made DF one of the top robotics companies in the country.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) played a crucial role in shaping the careers of some visionary leaders. Pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical-Mechatronics) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, they gained essential knowledge in electronics, embedded systems, robotics, programming, and leadership. Engaging in hands-on activities such as Robocon, Philips Young Investor Challenge, Robofest, Capstone, and Innovate Malaysia provided them with practical experience and nurtured their entrepreneurial spirit. Dr Yeong graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2001, Ricky Yap in 2008, Ping Hua in 2008, Wei Kang in 2012, Nik in 2012, and Syafiq in 2020.Â
Looking ahead, DF is poised for further growth and expansion, with plans to list or pursue mergers and acquisitions by 2027. As they embark on this exciting journey, we extend our best wishes for their continued success. In the meantime, DF is actively raising funds through the pitchIN Equity Crowdfund (bit.ly/DF_Automation-ECF), offering an opportunity for interested investors to be part of Malaysia’s robotics revolution. Join us in supporting this remarkable venture and witnessing the transformative impact of Malaysian technology on the global stage.
