In conjunction with the FSci-UTM Collaborative Learning Program hosted by King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), a delegation of Electrical Engineering students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) organized the Bangkok Educational Trip 2024 from March 8 to 10, 2024. This event was part of a special program offered by UTM International.

A total of 22 team members from UTM’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), including 19 students and 3 lecturers, participated in this program. The initiative featured knowledge transfer through training sessions on robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Innovations at Bangmod Wittaya School, Bangkok. Forty students and 20 teachers participated, with support from the KMUTT team, comprising 21 students and 5 staff members.

Besides providing two training sessions related to STEM education led by the UTM and KMUTT teams, the program also offered UTM students opportunities for historical and cultural visits in Bangkok. On March 8, the trip began with an introductory session between UTM students and KMUTT while en route to the Siam Museum. At the museum, UTM delegates learned about Thailand’s development, culture, and traditions. Lunch featured Thai cuisine, followed by a tour of the River Museum Bangkok, known for its unique art paintings.

The first training session took place on March 9, 2024. The UTM team led a session on Industry 4.0 technologies, focusing on robotics programming and artificial intelligence (AI). Using the RobotinkerKit and Tinkercode block programming, participants, divided into 11 groups, learned to develop mobile applications for wirelessly controlling robots through the Blynk App, Tinkercode, and Teachable Machine. The session culminated in a robot competition, where participants programmed the robot sensors using their developed apps and AI gesture training, guiding the robots to transport cups to designated locations within a set time.

On March 10, the second training session, led by the KMUTT team, focused on STEM Innovations. It included a lecture on tower cranes and physics applications in their operation. Participants then built tower crane prototypes using materials like ice cream sticks, boards, and hydraulic systems. They presented their design concepts and tested their prototypes in a competition, lifting weights and placing them on various platform heights.

This program offered participants opportunities to collaborate, enhance problem-solving skills, connect across regions, and develop an interest in robotics. Thanks to the contributions of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering UTM, Faculty of Science KMUTT, and STEM-RBTK of FKE, this initiative was a success.
