UTM and Universitas Semarang Lead the ICoSECURE 2024

SEMARANG – The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Semarang has strengthened international academic collaboration by appointing distinguished staff members from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as co-host organizers for the International Conference on Sustainable Engineering, Green Construction, Urban Studies, Agriculture, and Food Resilience (ICoSECURE 2024). The conference, themed “Building a Strong Nation: Advancing State Resilience through Sustainable Engineering, Green Construction, Urban Studies, and Food Security,” took place on October 29, 2024, in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia.

UTM’s esteemed delegation included Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif Saleh, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the UTM Kuala Lumpur campus; Dr. Nur Hafizah Abd Khalid, the General Co-Chair; Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Safuan A Rashid; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rozana Zakarian; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaiton Haron; Ts. Dr. Nor Hasanah Abdul Shukor Lim; Dr. Nadirah Darus; Dr. Khairulzan Yahya; Ir. Dr. Thong Jia Wen and Ir. Kamaliah Mohd Saha. These representatives from UTM played critical roles in ensuring the event’s success, which attracted around 110 participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

As General Co-Chair, Dr. Nur Hafizah Abd Khalid managed the conference effectively. She led the opening ceremony alongside Dr. Ferry Firmawan, the General Chair; Dr. Supari, the Rector of Universitas Semarang; and Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Faiz Syuaib, the Director of Technology Research and Community Service at the Directorate General of Higher Education – Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Abd. Latif Saleh and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rozana Zakaria delivered keynote speeches that inspired attendees with their insights on advancing sustainable development in the region.

ICoSECURE 2024 provided an invaluable platform for networking and collaboration, fostering an environment where ideas could flourish and new partnerships could form. The event encouraged meaningful dialogue and future-focused discussions that are likely to drive innovation and bring about impactful changes across various disciplines.

Looking ahead, the collaboration between Universitas Semarang and UTM is set to expand, with plans to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU will enable further academic activities, joint research projects, and staff exchanges, enhancing the academic and research capabilities of both institutions.
