UTM and UNKRIS Foster International Collaboration through Digital Transformation Initiatives

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) welcomed a delegation from Universitas Krisnadwipayana (UNKRIS), Indonesia, at the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI), UTM Kuala Lumpur, to strengthen academic and research collaboration in the rapidly evolving fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. This event, aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and building strategic partnerships, aligns with UTM’s mission to be a global leader in AI research and education, supporting Malaysia’s vision of becoming a hub for technological innovation.

The day commenced with an official introduction to UTM and the FAI, led by the Dean of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Naz’ri Mahrin, accompanied by the Deputy Dean (Academics and Student Affairs), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suriayati Chuprat. They highlighted UTM’s pivotal role in advancing AI research and education. This was followed by an enlightening presentation on the “Government Digital Transformation and Analytics Initiative” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Azaliah Abu Bakar, emphasizing the transformative potential of digital technologies in enhancing public sector efficiency and governance. The session showcased Malaysia’s strategic initiatives in leveraging digital tools for societal and economic development. Further enriching the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Zairah Ab Rahim delivered a thought-provoking lecture on “AI Ethics and Governance,” underlining the critical importance of responsible AI deployment in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The UNKRIS delegation, led by Dr. Ade Reza Hariyadi, Saefudin Zuhri, and Dr. Azis Hakim, actively engaged in the discussions, reflecting their institution’s commitment to international collaboration and academic excellence. They shared insights into their initiatives in Indonesia and explored potential areas for joint research and academic programs. The morning session culminated with a certificate and souvenir exchange ceremony, symbolizing the deepening of ties between the two institutions. A group photo was taken at the rooftop of Menara Razak, capturing the essence of partnership and shared vision for future collaborations.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited Jabatan Digital Negara (JDN) in Putrajaya, where they were warmly received by the Director of the Digital Consultation Division, Pn. Siti Sapura Raffee. The visit provided an in-depth look into the governance of public sector digitalization in Malaysia, covering comprehensive policies, strategic frameworks, and key initiatives spearheaded by JDN. An engaging presentation by JDN representatives was followed by a dynamic discussion session, where the delegations exchanged views on digital governance and explored potential collaborations in advancing public sector digital transformation. The dialogue underscored the shared commitment of UTM, UNKRIS, and JDN to leveraging technology for societal benefit.

The day concluded with an enriching tour of Putrajaya, offering the delegates a unique perspective on Malaysia’s cultural and administrative landscape. They visited iconic landmarks such as the elegant Putra Mosque, the futuristic Masjid Besi, and the serene Putrajaya Lake. The tour also included stops at Perdana Putra and Dataran Putra, providing insights into the nation’s governance and architectural grandeur. This immersive experience deepened the delegates’ understanding of Malaysia’s unique blend of modernity and tradition, underscoring the value of cultural exchange in fostering international cooperation and mutual respect. The visit not only strengthened academic ties but also laid the groundwork for future partnerships in AI and digital transformation, embodying the spirit of innovation and collaboration between Malaysia and Indonesia.
